Irene Chrysovalantou- St. Irene was brought to Constantinople as the bride of young Emperor Michael. But God?s will that this beautiful young maid was to take on the monastic habit. Her ascetical labors were such that she suffered many attacks from demons. As a novice she got a blessing from her abbess to spend the nights praying with outstretched arms as did St. Arsenius the Great.
