Nina was a relative of the Great Martyr George. She was educated by the Patriarch Juvenal and was raised in piety. She was commanded to go to the land of Georgia to spread the gospel there by the Mother of God. There she gained the love of the Georgian people and baptized their King Mirian and his wife the queen.. The king assisted her in her missionary work. Because of her love for the Great Martyr George so also did the people. When the Crusaders came through the land and saw their devotion to the Martyr they gave the name "Georgia" to the nation.
