Paul the Apostle-Paul is called the Apostle to the Nations, that is to the world. He was a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin and was a Roman citizen from Tarsus. Known as Saul and a zealot Pharisee and a disciple of Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law in Jerusalem. Because of his zeal for the Law he became fervent persecutor of the Church. On his way to Damascus to bring Christians back to Jerusalem in bonds he was struck blind by a bright light. In it he heard a voice saying, ?Saul, Saul why persecutes thou Me?"
