Commemorated September 24. Thekla, disciple of St. Paul. Equal to the Apostle. She was converted by listening as St. Paul preached in a house next to Thekla. She decided to remain a virgin and this enraged her parents who had betrothed her. After many attempts to get her to change her mind, even to attempts to kill her. But she was saved by the mercy of God. Finally she was pursued by men sent by her father to violate her. She was trapped in a mountain pass and she prayed that God would save her. The mountain opened and allowed her to escape. She founded a convent and lived to be 90 years old. She is the first woman martyr.
