Theotokos, Czestochowa- Most will recognize this icon as the most revered icon of Poland. However, its origin can be traced back to the 13th century. It came from Byzantium to Galicia, which at that time was an independent Orthodox Kingdom. It was kept in the church in the castle at Belz and became known as the ?Belzhetskaya Icon.? Later in the 14th century the Polish King Casimir overran Galicia, and it was annexed to Poland. He married the Polish prince, Mazowsze, to the Duchess of Galicia
